Police Investigating South Side Thefts
Appleton officers are investigating a series of thefts from garages and unlocked vehicles on the south side of the city. A person of interest is in custody.
On the morning of January 9, 2017, the Appleton Police Department began receiving reports of property being stolen from unlocked vehicles and unsecured garages. Due to footprints in the overnight snow, officers were able to track an involved individual to a nearby apartment complex. A 43 year-old Appleton resident has been taken into custody for his involvement in at least one of the incidents.
Investigating officers have determined at least twelve incidents occurred overnight, in an area to the east of S. Telulah Avenue, on the city’s south side. Significantly, it appeared the individual responsible targeted unlocked garages and vehicles.
The investigating officers have recovered property from the residence occupied by the person of interest. They believe it is possible additional vehicles and garages were entered during the theft spree. The Appleton Police Department is advising people affected by the thefts to contact the department’s non-emergency number (920) 832-5500 to report any previously unreported theft, vehicle entry or unauthorized entry into a garage/residence.
