Overnight Parking Permission Available Online
In 2015, the Police Communication Technicians (PCT’s) of the Appleton Police Department handled over 22,000 calls for overnight parking. A new online tool, available to community members, should considerably reduce the need for those calls.
The City of Appleton has had an ordinance since 1965 restricting on-street parking between the hours of 2 and 5 AM. Citizens are able to request permission, up to 7 times per month, to be exempt from enforcement, while parking on the street during those hours.
To reduce the need for people to call for parking permission, the Appleton Police Department has worked with the City of Appleton Information Technology Department to create an online parking permission site. In addition to seeking parking permission, the site also allows community members to report parking violations. Individuals, without online access, may still call the Appleton Police Department’s non-emergency phone number (920) 832-5500 to seek parking permission.
Community members are reminded of temporary restrictions during which time no permission will be granted. This includes special events, annual leaf collection and weather related events.
The new online tool can be found at the City of Appleton website by following this link: http://applications.appleton.org/departments/pd/op1/ . It can also be found on the home page of the City of Appleton website (www.appleton.org) under the “Online Services” heading.
