Division Street Investigation Ongoing
The Appleton Police and Fire Departments, along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, are continuing an investigation into the death of an individual as the result of a fire on the morning of June 22, 2016.
On Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at 6:12 AM, an employee of a halfway house in the 500 block of N. Division Street called 911 to report a fire inside the residence. The Appleton Fire Department responded and quickly extinguished the fire. A building search by fire personnel discovered one individual in the building who required medical attention. Another individual, who was deceased, was found during the search.
The individual who died in the fire has been identified as 24 year-old, Milo G. Huempfner of Green Bay. He was a resident of the halfway house. Investigators are awaiting the results of the autopsy and toxicology testing to determine the cause of his death.
The individual transported to a local hospital was a 55 year-old, Appleton man. An employee of the group home, he was overcome by smoke when he entered the building to look for occupants. He was treated at a local hospital and was released. Investigators have accounted for all individuals and employees at the home.
Appleton Fire Department personnel estimate the damage from the fire to be approximately $10,000.
