City of Appleton Announces Community-Wide Needs Survey

The Mayor and Community & Economic Development Department invite Appleton residents to participate in an online Community-Wide Needs Survey during the month of May to assist the City with prioritization of community development and housing needs.

To access the survey, please utilize the following link: The Survey is also available in Spanish: and Hmong: The survey will be available online May 1st – 31st. For those without access to the internet, paper copies of the survey [available in English, Spanish, and Hmong] may be found on the 1st or 5th floor of City Hall in the Customer Service area and on the 2nd floor of the Appleton Public Library. Paper copies may be dropped off at the Customer Service area of the 5th floor in City Hall from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday or mailed to Community & Economic Development Department, 100 N. Appleton St. Appleton, WI 54911.

The needs survey will address the following topics:                                                                                                                                                                          

  • Homeownership opportunities
  • Rental housing availability
  • Homeless programming
  • Jobs/economic development
  • Personal safety within neighborhoods
  • Redevelopment/revitalization efforts
  • Parks & recreation projects
  • Transportation/transit options
  • Availability of public services


The results of the needs survey will be included in the 2020-2024 Consolidated Plan for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and help determine the use of the City’s annual allocation of funding.

Results of this survey, along with other data indicators/analyses, and recommendations will be presented to the Community and Economic Development Committee this fall.
