National award recognizes Appleton's communication outreach efforts
Communications coordinator named one of most influential people in local government
Our communication outreach efforts across all our departments are in the spotlight this week, as our communications coordinator was recognized by a national government organization as one of the most influential people in local government.
Communications coordinator Chad Doran was recognized as the 18th most influential person in local government by Engaging Local Government Leaders (ELGL). Doran runs our main social media pages (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) as well organizing our popular Appycademy. He created our city drone team and writes content for our website and serves as our media point of contact, among other duties.
Each year since 2016, ELGL has put together the "Chris Traeger Award", a list of the top 100 most influential people in local government around the country. The awards are named after the fictional character Chris Traeger, the city manager for the fictional City of Pawnee, Indiana on the TV show Park and Recreation.
Nominations were submitted from local government professionals from across the country. ELGL members elected the top ten of the Traeger List. The ELGL Evaluation Team reviewed and selected the remainder of the list. Doran's nomination reads, in part: "Chad is a government communications professional who inspires and supports his peers while elevating the profile of his community; I’m proud to call him both colleague and friend."
"It's an honor to be on this list of amazing professionals from all areas of local government," said Doran. "What makes this award so unique, is that it recognizes the efforts of local government professionals from all areas of public service and I'm proud that the communication work we are doing with our residents here in Appleton is recognized by local governments across the country."
