Parking changes coming to downtown Jan. 1st

Post Date:11/30/2018

As of January 1st, the Blue Ramp located behind the City Center will be closed to vehicles. That ramp has reached the end of its useful life and will be torn down. It will be seeded and turned into green space ready for future development. Downtown parking

People with monthly permits are being relocated to the Yellow Ramp or Green Ramp. Visitors that used the metered parking spots will now use on-street parking around the City Center or be able to use hourly parking in the Red, Yellow or Green Ramps.

Our parking study completed in 2015, shows we have ample parking in the area north of College Avenue to absorb the loss of the Blue Ramp. Future development north of College Avenue could require another parking ramp be built. The City is also planning to build a new public parking ramp underneath the new U.S. Venture headquarters to be built on what is known as the "Bluff Site" off Allen and Kimball Streets south of Lawrence Street.

Also, if you look at the map, you'll notice that the prices for parking are going up slightly. For the two-hour limit on-street meter prices will go from $0.75/hour to $1.00/hour. That includes off-street meters at the Appleton Public Library. The 12-hour parking meters north of Washington St. will go from $0.20/hour to $0.25/hour. All meters with red meter heads remain $0.50 for 30 minutes.

The only change to parking ramp prices for the Red, Green and Yellow Ramps is that there will no longer be a $1.00/hour rate for less than two hours. That fee is now $2.00/hour for less than three hours of parking. Rates for 3-4 hours is still $3.00/hour and four hours or more is $5.00

These rate changes are needed to help our parking utility revenues match expenses. As always, let us know if you have any questions.
