Update on Suspicious Packages At Post Office

The individual responsible for leaving two packages in the parking lot of the Appleton Post Office has been identified. 

On Monday, January 15, 2018, at approximately 12:54 AM, officers were dispatched to the rear parking lot of the Appleton Post Office to check on two suspicious packages. The circumstances of them being there was out of the ordinary.  As a result, the joint Brown/Outagamie County Bomb Squad was called to check on the contents of the packages.

This afternoon, the Appleton Police Department, with assistance from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, was able to locate the individual responsible for leaving the packages in the parking lot.  The adult male, who has mental health issues and resides in a group home, had taken the packages to the post office with intentions of the packages being delivered to a friend in Colorado. Our officer met with the man and a staff member to talk about the issues surrounding him leaving the packages at the postal facility. 

The Appleton Police Department will not be requesting charges.
