Appleton ranked one of safest cities in the country for women
When it comes to being a safe place to live, Appleton is near the top. Appleton joins several other Wisconsin communities as being one of the safest cities in the country, specifically for women.
The website securitychoice.com rated the top cities using five different categories - education, income, employment, poverty and crime offenses - with information from the U.S. Census Bureau. Appleton ranked 94th out of the top 100.
The website evaluated 478 cities to create the ranking.
"Our community has always been known as a safe, welcoming place and we're always appreciative when that gets recognized," said Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna. "No matter what the ranking is, be it a 'best place to live,' 'best place to raise a family' or 'best place for children,' safety is always a component of those rankings and we're very proud of that."
One big factor is the crime rate in Appleton, which is among the lowest in the country. Appleton has over 200 Neighborhood Watch groups, over 50 police volunteers, and several unique community programs and partnerships that contribute to keeping our community a safe place to live.
