Health Dept. looks to continue as top tier provider

Post Date:09/12/2017 2:05 PM

Representatives from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) visited Appleton for an intensiveHealth Department review review this week to look at the work being conducted by our health department.

Every five-years health departments in Wisconsin need to undergo a review by DHS to be re-certified. The DHS review verifies that each health department provides a minimum level of service. There are three different levels of health departments in the state. Each level provides different types of services. Appleton is currently a level III department - meaning it provides the widest range of services for a local health department.

"We provide comprehensive services from nursing to restaurant inspections," said Appleton Health Officer Kurt Eggebrecht. "This review looks at our processes and procedures and validates the high-quality of work our staff is doing for all Appleton residents."

Representatives from DHS spent the day with members of our health department, members of the Appleton Board of Health and a Common Council representative to review the department's re-certification application.

The review board will now make written recommendations for our health department based on the site visit. The state health officer will review the materials and make a determination in the coming weeks. In the meantime our health department will go on delivering high levels of service to our community.

If you'd like to know more about the services the department offers, visit the Health Department page of our website.
