Appleton ranked 3rd best in the nation for children
When it comes to raising children, for many parents, it's all about location, location, location. According to SmartAsset, it's hard to find a place better than Appleton.
For the third year in row, Appleton has been ranked in the top 10, this year moving all the way up to 3rd on the list of best places for children.
"Appleton is a place where families want to be and want to stay," said Mayor Tim Hanna. "We have the amenities of much bigger cities and a family-friendly atmosphere that draws people here."
SmartAsset agreed, ranking Appleton high for the variety of kid-friendly activities, which includes five arcades and eight bowling alleys. The Building for Kids Children's Museum downtown is another popular kid-friendly activity. Appleton also boasts one of the most highly-regarded youth sports complexes in the Midwest in USA Youth Sports Complex and our Appleton Parks and Recreation Department provides a variety of programs year-round for children to participate in. Throw in the recently renovated Erb park and pool and it's easy to see that there are opportunities for children of all ages in Appleton.
Another big reason for Appleton ranking high on the list is the highest graduation rate in the study. Thanks to the quality of the education provided by the Appleton Area School District as well as the parochial schools in the area, SmartAsset noted that over 94% of Appleton students graduate.
In order to find the best places for children, SmartAsset says it analyzed data on 198 metro areas around the country. The website scored each city using metrics like percent of kid-friendly establishments, median home value, high school graduation rate and a variety of other factors.
