City Continues To Make Progress with Storm Clean-up (posted April 11, 2013)
Directors from the City of Appleton met this morning to discuss progress made throughout the city following the ice storm that blanketed the city yesterday.
Approximately 400 We Energies customers in the City of Appleton remain without power at 11AM. We Energies continues to work at restoring power to those customers, estimating that most customers should have power restored by 7PM tonight. Individuals with questions related to power outages in the City of Appleton should contact We Energies at 1-800-662-4797.
The Appleton Fire Department responded to 289 service calls yesterday. 260 calls were related to downed wires and two calls were reported as structure fires. Additionally, Appleton Fire Department officials are interested in property damage directly related to the storm. If you would like to provide that information, please call 920-832-1704.
The Appleton Police Department reports that all signal-controlled intersections in the city are again operational. The Department of Public Works is collecting the generators and temporary signs that were utilized during the power outage.
The Appleton Department of Public Works and Forestry Department are continuing to work on removal of branches and/or trees that were damaged. Today, in addition to the normal hours of operation at the yard waste site at 2625 E. Glendale Avenue, the Department of Public Works will have the site open until 6:45PM to allow Appleton citizens to drop off branches and other yard debris. Curbside pickup of branches and brush begins next week. Due to the nature of this storm, branches and brush, up to 8 feet in length will be picked up by the Department of Public Works. The department estimates that complete clean-up from the storm may take several months, as they currently have over 1000 citizen generated calls for service.
The Appleton Department of Public Works is also reminding citizens that there are no free overflow pickups in 2013. Please refer to the City of Appleton website or the recently delivered issue of the Appleton City Guide, for information regarding disposal of property and construction materials that may have become damaged as a result of the storm.
The City Health Department is advising citizens who may have experienced flooding issues in their residence to check out information on the Health Department’s Facebook page (Appleton Health Department) or the City of Appleton website for information regarding flood safety and recovery following flooding.
For additional information, please contact Sgt. Lund at 832-5509 or 419-5180.
