VALLEY TRANSIT: News Releases

25’ Rides to Octoberfest on Saturday, September 30th

September 20, 2006

Valley Transit offers free bus rides to and from License to Cruise on Friday, September 29. All routes will be free after 3:45 PM on this evening, providing a great way to get downtown to join in the fun. Free rides for License to Cruise are sponsored by Teamsters Local No. 563.

For the Octoberfest celebration on Saturday, September 30, all routes will be 25’ all day and into the night. Money Saver Community Savings Magazine sponsors the 25’ fares for Octoberfest.

Park ‘N Ride Lots will also be available on Saturday only, for people who prefer to park nearby and take the bus the rest of the way.  Starting at 8:30 AM Saturday, riders may use the Appleton East High School lot and catch the bus on Schaefer St., the Goodwill Industries lot on Appleton Rd. (Hwy 47) in Menasha, or the parking lot at Valley Packaging on N. Roemer Rd. Beginning at 9:00 AM on Saturday, riders may also use the Fox Valley Technical College parking lot on Bluemound Dr. in Grand Chute.  Park ‘N Ride Signs will be posted to indicate where passengers can catch the bus in these locations.

Due to limited space, passengers traveling with children are asked to use umbrella style strollers only. Larger strollers and strollers built for 2 or more will not be allowed on board. Children must be removed from strollers and the strollers must be folded prior to boarding the bus.

Service from 9:45 AM to 5:45 PM will be half-hourly on Saturday, with hourly service continuing after 5:45 PM.   On both Friday and Saturday night, Valley Transit buses will be on their regular evening schedule, with most routes in service until about 10:30 p.m.

“We are pleased to be part of these great community events,” explains General Manager Chuck Kamp,  “and we want to thank Teamsters Local 563 and the Money Saver Magazine for helping us.”

The Transit Center is located behind the City Center Plaza in downtown Appleton.  All routes stop at the Transit Center, which is a convenient place for passengers to exit the bus and walk over to the License to Cruise or Octoberfest events.  Rider’s Guides with route maps are located at the Transit Center, at ticket outlet centers throughout the Fox Cities and on the web at www.appleton.org/vt.

Average Saturday ridership is 1,700 rides. Valley Transit averages more than 8,500 for Octoberfest.
