Free
Rides to Octoberfest and License to Cruise
September
20, 2005
Valley
Transit offers free bus rides to and from License to Cruise and
Octoberfest. On Friday, September 23, all routes will be free
after 3:45 PM providing a great way to get downtown for License to
Cruise. All routes will be free all day and into the night on
Saturday, September 24 for the Octoberfest celebration. Free rides
for License to Cruise are sponsored by Teamsters Local No. 563.
Free rides for Octoberfest are sponsored by Money Saver Community
Savings Magazine.
Park
‘N Ride Lots will be available on Saturday only, for people
who prefer to park nearby and take the bus the rest of the way.
Starting at 8:30 AM Saturday, riders may use the Appleton East High
School lot, The Goodwill Industries Lot on Appleton Road (Hwy 47) in
Menasha, and the parking lot at Valley Packaging on N. Roemer Road.
Starting at 9:00 AM Saturday, riders may also use the Fox Valley
Technical College parking lot on Bluemound in Grand Chute.
Park ‘N Ride Signs will be posted to indicate where passengers can
catch the bus in these locations.
Due
to limited space, passengers traveling with children are asked to
use umbrella style strollers only. Larger strollers and strollers
built for 2 or more will not be allowed on board. Children must be
removed from strollers and strollers must be folded prior to
boarding the bus.
Service
from 9:45 AM to 5:45 PM will be half-hourly on Saturday, with hourly
service continuing after 5:45 PM. On both Friday and
Saturday night, Valley Transit buses will be on their regular
evening schedule, with most routes in service until about 10:30 p.m.
“Through
the generous support Teamsters local 563 and the Money Saver
Magazine, Valley Transit is able provide this free service to the
community,” explains General Manager Chuck Kamp.
“Providing free rides gives people a safe and easy way to and from
all of the festivities, and encourages many people who don’t
normally use Valley Transit to give the bus a try.”
The
Transit Center is located behind the City Center Plaza in downtown
Appleton. Most routes have stops at the Transit Center, and it
will be a good spot for passengers to exit the bus and walk over to
the License to Cruise or Octoberfest events. Rider’s Guides
with route maps are located at the Transit Center, at ticket outlet
centers throughout the Fox Cities and on the web at www.appleton.org/vt.
Average
Saturday ridership is 1,800 rides. Valley Transit averages more than
8,500 for Octoberfest.
