The
Technology Services Department serves to provide all City
departments with reliable, timely and accurate computer
applications, hardware and services by using, implementing and/or
maximizing current technology that is both cost effective and
responsive to departmental needs. In addition, the Technology Services Department provides phone, voicemail, and copier services
to all City departments.
iSeries
The City of Appleton
houses an IBM iSeries midrange computer to process the majority of
business functions for it’s citizens, internal departments and
external interfaces. The iSeries systems
and programming staff is responsible for the development of
automated information systems including; management of application
development, feasibility studies, project leadership, standards
development, systems and database design; programming, system
implementation, system administration, user training and
documentation development.
Every
department in the City has iSeries applications that ultimately
serve all City of Appleton residents. Systems
developed and supported by the systems and programming staff

GIS
The
GIS Team provides Geographic Information Services (GIS) and mapping
support for the City of Appleton. This includes creating,
maintaining, and updating graphic data and customized programs to
eliminate redundancy in the storage and retrieval of maps and other
geographic information used by the city.
The GIS Team is also
charged with developing and administering policies and procedures
relating to access and utilization of the system, as well as
providing user support and training in the use of the system.

NETWORK
SERVICES
At
the City of Appleton in the Technology Services Department we have
a Network Team consisting of one Network Administrator, two PC/LAN
Specialists, two Help Desk Specialists, and one PC Applications
Developer. We support all PC, Server, and, network hardware &
software through out the City including City Hall, Appleton Police
Department, Appleton Fire Department, Park and Recreations
Department, Municipal Services, Wastewater Utilities, and Valley
Transit. This includes nearly 500 PC’s and laptops, 100+ networked
and stand alone printers, 14 servers and a WAN spanning from City
Hall to all City department locations.
