Recycling

To check when your recycling collection occurs, check the home page of www.appleton.org Under the City Guides and Maps Section, click on ‘My Neighborhood’ and follow the search link for your address.

Recyclable items include newspaper, magazines, books, junk mail, envelopes, cardboard, fiberboard, glass bottles and jars, #1 and #2 plastic jugs and bottles, steel and aluminum cans, and empty aerosol cans (except for those that contain pesticides).

PLEASE NOTE: Your curbside collection program is single-stream, which means it is no longer necessary to separate your paper from your containers.

1. Place all recyclable items into reusable containers that are between 15 and 33 gallons, and weigh no more than 50 pounds, have exterior handles and are marked with a recycling sticker. DO NOT USE PLASTIC BAGS. Note: Shredded paper can be placed in brown, paper bags and stapled shut. Boxes must be flattened, cut down to larger than 3' x 3' and secured on windy days. Gift-wrap and coated packing paper used by moving companies are not recyclable.

Recycling stickers and recycling guides are available at City Hall and at the Municipal Service Building. DO NOT USE PLASTIC BAGS.

2. The opening of all #1 and #2 plastics must be smaller than the base (no butter tubs, yogurt containers, etc.). Lids should be removed.

3. Because refuse and recycling are picked by separate trucks, please do not place recycling in front of garbage containers or garbage in front of recycling containers. We suggest putting recyclables on one side of the driveway and refuse on the other side.

4. Make sure recycling containers are large enough so that materials do not overflow. For other ideas and information, visit the Outagamie County Department of Solid Waste web site at www.RecycleMoreOutagamie.org
