BASEBALL, T-BALL & SOFTBALL
INSTRUCTION: This program provides instruction in the
fundamentals with emphasis in throwing, hitting, fielding,
batting, base running, field situations, teamwork and game
play. Participants also learn sportsmanship and rules of the
game while developing self-esteem and supplementing their team
experience.
AGES: 5 to 8

BASICS OF BICYCLING: Get "on the road" with your
friends while learning how to be a safe bicycle rider.
Participants will learn how to ride in traffic, rules of the
road and safety practices. Classroom instruction and road
riding are part of this program.

CAMP APRD: Campers will enjoy the opportunity to
participate in traditional day camp activities at Appleton
Memorial Park. A nature-based field trip is scheduled during
each week of Camp APRD.

CANOE INSTRUCTION: Learn the basic paddling strokes, canoe
safety and where to canoe in the area. Enjoy canoeing on the
five acre pond at Appleton Memorial Park.

DISC GOLF INSTRUCTION: Learn a brief
history of the sport, the basic throwing styles and the rules
necessary to play this exciting game.
AGES: 12 and up

IN-LINE SKATING: Learn how to
stride and glide with various skating techniques. Also learn
to stop, go downhill, skate safely, develop speed and power
and feel more comfortable.

INTRO TO THEATER: Discover the world of acting in this
introductory class. Students will practice expression,
movement and voice, and will perform for their special guests
at the last class.

KARATE FUN COURSE:
The
APRD partners with Karate America to offer this class that is about life skills and
personal development. The class is exciting yet disciplined
and focuses the child's attention while improving the
student's ability to learn.

REGISTRATION: April, August
KIDS ON BIKES: This is a one week program
teaching lessons on bicycle, pedestrian, school bus and traffic
safety. The emphasis will be on bike safety, learning to ride in a
cooperative manner, handling bikes skillfully and following the
rules of the road. Participants should have the ability to ride a
two wheel bike with or without training wheels.
AGES: Children entering 1st and 2nd grades

OPEN GYM: Basketball is the main activity, but
other games are organized as the kids arrive. Parents
are welcome to attend. Open Gym sites include Ferber,
Johnston and McKinley school gyms.
AGES: Kindergarten through 8th grade
PROGRAM OFFERED: Saturdays, December through March
REGISTRATION: Drop in program, free of charge
PILATES PLUS: A blend of dance,
pilates, yoga and figure skating techniques that will tone
and shape your body. This class concentrates on core
body exercises, expanding into stretches, thereby increasing
the student's strength, flexibility, agility and posture.
AGES: 14 to adult

PLAYGROUND PROGRAM: Come and drop in on the fun at your
neighborhood playground. Kids are welcome to participate in
sports, games, special events, bus trips, crafts and much more
throughout the summer.

SOCCER
INSTRUCTION: Children will learn the basic skills needed to play and understand the
game of soccer through fun interactive drills. This program is
geared to the beginner player.

SYNERGY: A blend of dance, Pilates, yoga and ice skating techniques will tone and shape
your body. Energizing and great exercise for any physical
fitness level - learn how to move safely and at your own pace.

TENNIS
INSTRUCTION: Bring your racket and be ready to have fun!
Beginners will learn the basics of the game. Intermediate
students should have had one year of lessons and be able to
hit the ground strokes, volley and serve consistently.
Advanced students should be interested in competitive tennis.
Matches are held on Friday mornings.

WRESTLING
INSTRUCTION: This program is a partnership between the
Appleton Youth Wrestling Club and the Appleton Parks and
Recreation Department. The Club meets Mondays and Tuesdays at Appleton West High School, 2nd
floor gym.
AGES: 2nd through 6th grade
PROGRAM OFFERED: December through March
REGISTRATION: Register through the Appleton Youth Wrestling

YOGA: A
get-a-way to releasing tension and building self-confidence.
Develop improved body alignment, balance, flexibility,
strength and range of motion. Invigorating yet centering poses
will bring harmony to the mind, body and spirit. Mindfulness
of well-being will be explored through breathing and guided
imagery.
AGES: 8 to 12 and 12 to adult
