PARK & RECREATION: FAQ

How do I register my children for recreation programs?

Complete registration and program information is available in the Activity Guide. The Activity Guide is available by clicking on the "Activity Guide" link on the Department Home page and/or the  Announcement page. If only a registration form is needed go to the above "Forms" link. The Household Information Form must also be completed in order to get the family information into our online registration database. Registration/Household Information forms may also be obtained at our office during regular business hours.

How do I get my child on a youth sports team?

Individuals wishing to play youth sports need to fill out an individual player registration form. More information on individual player registration may be found on the Recreation page under "Youth Sports".

How do I know if a program or sport is rained out?

Cancellations due to weather are listed on the Parks and Recreation Information line at 832-3900.

Why am I considered a non-resident when I have an Appleton mailing address?

A resident IS ANY PERSON WHO LIVES WITHIN THE CORPORATE CITY LIMITS of Appleton. This is not to be confused with being an Appleton Area School District resident. City and School District boundaries are not the same. A NON-RESIDENT is anyone who does not reside within the corporate City limits of Appleton; Grand Chute, Town of Menasha, Darboy, Greenville, Harrison, etc. are NOT within the corporate City limits. Appleton mailing addresses do not automatically mean that you are a corporate City resident.

What swim lesson class should I register my child for when he/she has had lessons somewhere else?

If you wish to register your child for swim lessons but are unsure of what level to put your child in you can either pick up an Activity Guide from the Parks and Recreation Department Office, or simply link to the "Activity Guide" on the Department Home Page. In the Activity Guide you will find descriptions of each swim lesson level that the Parks and Recreation Department provides. When you find a level that fits your child's ability fill out a registration form (see the registration question above). If you still are unsure what class to sign your child up for, sign them up for the class you think best suits their abilities. During the first day of class, talk to the Director of Instruction at the pool and have them test your child for the appropriate level placement. If you have any information such as a skills check off card or any proof of previous lesson experience that could help us place your child please show this to the Director of Instruction on the first day of lessons.

How do I apply for a seasonal position with the Parks and Recreation Department?

A list of open positions and an employment application may be found on the Human Resources webpage (go to the "Departments" link on the left, and follow the links to "Human Resources" then "Employment"). In-person application instructions are also given on the Human Resources webpage.
