RECYCLING
Recycling is picked up every other week on your
regular garbage day. Items should be set out for curbside collection
the night before. Recycling
is mandatory. Recyclable items include clean
newsprint, magazines, books, junk mail, envelopes of all kinds,
cardboard, fiberboard, glass bottles and jars, #1 and #2 plastic
liquid containers, metal cans, and aerosol cans (except for those
that contain pesticides).
PLEASE
NOTE:
1.
Keep paper and cardboard separate from other recyclable
materials. Place paper
items into paper bags; cardboard boxes; or in other containers that
are between 15 and 33 gallons, have exterior handles and marked with
a recycling sticker. DO NOT
USE PLASTIC BAGS. Note: Shredded paper can be placed in paper bags or cardboard
boxes that are weighted down with heavier material such as
magazines. Boxes must be flattened, cut down to not exceed 3' x 3'
and bundled no more than 1’ high. Gift-wrap and coated packing paper used by moving companies are not
recyclable.
2.
Recyclable glass, plastic and metal
may be put out loose in a container separate
from the paper.
The container should be between 15 and 33 gallons, have exterior
handles, and be marked with an Appleton recycling sticker. Stickers
are available at City Hall and at the Municipal Service Building. DO
NOT USE PLASTIC BAGS.
3.
The opening of all #1 and #2 plastics must be smaller than
the base (no butter tubs, yogurt containers, etc.). Lids should be
removed.
4.
Make sure recycling containers are large enough so that
materials do not overflow. For other ideas and information, visit
the Outagamie County web site at www.co.outagamie.wi.us
and click on the “Recycling/Hazardous” link.
Helpful
Hint: To improve efficiency and lower your costs, clearly
separate recyclables from refuse. We suggest putting recyclables on
one side of the driveway and refuse on the other. Questions, call
832-5277.
