Young Citizen's
Police Academy
The
Young Citizen's Police Academy is a program sponsored by the
Appleton Police Department. This exciting program is
designed for young adults who have an interest in learning
more about law enforcement. The participants will have fun
while learning about careers in law enforcement, what type
of work police officers do, laws pertaining to teens, how to
handle emergency situations, how they can help the police,
and their responsibilities as citizens.
All classes will be
instructed and supervised by officers of the Appleton Police
Department. After appropriate instruction, many of the
activities will be hands-on. Safety will be emphasized at
all times. Class topics may include:
- police discretion and
decision making
- traffic laws and traffic
stops
- reporting crimes to the
police
- crime scene searching
- fingerprinting
- career opportunities and
training
- laws pertaining to
juveniles
- special tactics and
response team display
- defensive tactics
Eligibility: The program is open to
young adults who will be entering the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade
this fall. Preference will be given to City of Appleton
residents and City employees, but others may participate if there is room in
the program. All classes will be held at the Appleton Police
Department, except for special field trips. The cost
of the program is $7.00 per student.
