Public Information Officer (P.I.O)

The Public Information Officer is responsible for disseminating information on the programs, concerns, investigations, and day-to-day activities of the Department.  This is done through the newspaper, radio, and television outlets as a News Release.  Other venues are talks to civic groups, youth groups, special interest group meetings, and via requests for information through this website.

The Public Information Officer is the coordinator for the Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy where, throughout the 13 weeks, citizens are acquainted with all aspects of the Department as well as the rest of the criminal justice system.  There is also a Young Citizens' Academy held each summer, which is geared toward middle school students.

The Public Information Officer assumes the role of City PIO during major incidents involving several departments in the City government and is a permanent member of the Department Awards Board.
