Crime Analysis

The Crime Analysis Office is responsible for providing statistical support to the administrative, investigative, and patrol functions of the Appleton Police Department.  The office is staffed by one police officer, assigned as the Crime Analyst, who utilizes data from multiple sources to create documents that are understandable and applicable to other officers and the public.

Some of the duties of the Crime Analyst include:
  • responding to public requests regarding the safety of the City and its neighborhoods;
  • maintaining the database for false alarms and answering questions that might arise from billings;
  • preparing reports for the alderpersons, depicting police activities in their respective districts;
  • documenting crime trends and offering predictions as to their movement and continuance;
  • identifying suspects for patrol officers and investigators by examining the identifying statistical data.
