History
of Accreditation
at the
Appleton Police Department

|
late 1980s
|
The Appleton Police Department began the process of becoming
nationally accredited.
|
|
1992
|
CALEA awarded the Appleton Police
Department with national
accreditation recognition.
|
|
1998
|
The State of Wisconsin developed a
state program for accreditation. Wisconsin Law Enforcement
Accreditation Group (WILEAG) developed Standards of
Compliance for agencies within the State, adopting many of CALEA's
Standards. This same year, the APD sought and received accreditation
in the State of Wisconsin.

Since 1998
|
WILEAGs number of Standards of
Compliance has tripled, to 221. The APD continues to maintain and
prove to
the Board of WILEAG that it complies with their Standards, as well.

April 2003
|
The Appleton Police Department was successful
in reaffirming compliance with CALEA standards after a recent visit
from CALEA Assessors.
|
|
July 12, 2003
|
Annual CALEA Conference in Detroit,
Michigan, with a formal review and presentation of re-accreditation
certification to the Appleton Police Department.
|
|
April 29 - May 2, 2006
|
Re-accreditation on-site at the Appleton Police
Department, where CALEA Assessors spoke highly of policies &
procedures.
|
July 29, 2006
|
The Appleton Police Department is
recognized as a "Flagship Agency" at the annual CALEA Conference in Lexington,
Kentucky (See News
Release).
