Street Occupancy Permits

TEMPORARY AND PERMANENT STREET OCCUPANCY PERMITS

A Temporary Street Occupancy Permit must be obtained if occupying City street or sidewalk for 35 days or less. In order for the permit to be issued the person or company requesting the permit must have on file with the city a certificate of insurance listing the city as an additional insured. This certificate can be faxed to the Human Resources Department at 832-5845. The cost of this permit is $40.00.

A Permanent Street Occupancy Permit must be obtained if occupying the City street or sidewalk for longer than 35 days. In order to obtain this permit the same insurance requirements as the temporary permit are necessary. In addition, authorization by the Common Council is required. If you wish to obtain a permanent street occupancy permit please write a letter to Paula Vandehey, Director of Public Works, at the above address, stating what the permit is for, how long you will be occupying the right-of-way, and any other pertinent information. Please include, with the letter, a copy of the certificate of insurance and a check for the amount of the permit. The cost of the permit is $40.

In either case, if a lane of traffic is going to be closed or obstructed for any length of time a traffic control plan must be submitted to the Traffic Engineer prior to the permit being issued.
