Investigative Services

Investigator

The Investigative Services Unit (ISU) is primarily responsible for the investigation of major felony crimes such as homicide, sexual assault, burglary, robbery, forgery, and fraud. The investigators assigned to these crimes have developed an advanced level of expertise by attending specialized training and through years of experience working on complex cases with colleagues at the state and local level.

Investigating complex major crimes requires the dedication, cooperation, and assistance of a variety of individuals and units. Investigators work closely with officers on patrol to identify witnesses, preserve major crime scenes, gather critical information, and develop leads.

Identification / Evidence

Officers assigned to the Identification / Evidence Unit process major crime scenes, examine evidence in the Department's lab, and prepare, package, and make arrangements for the transportation of evidence to area crime labs. ID Officers also provide training to the Department's patrol officers who have opted to become ID Techs.

The Identification / Evidence Unit has focused on working closer with officers and investigators to facilitate the rapid return of property when a criminal complaint has been adjudicated. We now utilize a barcode based evidence system and have a more modernized evidence van with the ability to process some items on location.
