 SWIM LESSON PARTICIPANT INFORMATION
The indoor pool temperature is maintained between 80-82 degrees Fahrenheit. Parent/child participants, please keep this in mind when enrolling your child. Parent viewing is allowed at the indoor pools. Parents are required to supervise any children with them and remain in the viewing area at all times. The instructor will gladly answer any questions before or after class. Please see the Director of Instruction if you have any special concerns at any time.

INFANT AND EARLY CHILDHOOD CLASSES
PARENT & CHILD AQUATICS
Designed for children 6 months to 5 years of age, this program builds swimming readiness by emphasizing fun in the water. Parents and children participate in several guided practice sessions that help children learn elementary skills, including water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, underwater exploration and much more! Once children can perform basic skills without parental assistance, they advance to the Pre-School Beginners class.
PRESCHOOL BEGINNERS
This class has been designed specifically for children ages three to four years old that are ready for learning basic water skills on their own without the aid of their parents. Parents are strongly encouraged to have taken the Parent/Child class prior to enrolling their child in this program. Child must be 3 years old by the first day of lessons.
KINDERGARTEN INTERMEDIATE
This class is for children ages 4-5 who have already taken the preschool beginners class and are ready to further develop their swimming skills. This class is also geared for 5 year old children who have no previous swim lesson experience and are not quite ready for the Level 1 class. Child MUST be at least 4 years old by the first day of lessons. By passing this class children ages 4-5 will be eligible to advance to Level 1.
LEARN TO SWIM CLASSES
LEVEL 1: INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS
Purpose: Help students feel comfortable in the water. Where it all begins! In this introductory class, students will learn basic water safety rules, how to use life jackets, submerging their mouth, nose and eyes, opening their eyes underwater and picking up submerged objects, swimming on front and back using arm and leg actions, recognizing a swimmer in distress and getting help, exhaling underwater, and floating on front and back. PREREQUISITE: Although there is not a prerequisite for Level 1, students should be at least 6 years old and have had previous swim lesson experience.
LEVEL 2: FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS
Purpose: Give students success with fundamental skills.The next progression in the learn to swim program. In this level, students will be able to move in the water while wearing a life jacket, submerge their entire head, front and back glide, tread water using arm and leg motions, recognize a swimmer in distress and getting help, bobbing in water, jellyfish float, and swimming using combined stroke on front and back.
LEVEL 3: STROKE DEVELOPMENT
Purpose: Build on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice. In Level 3, students will work on reaching assists, submerging and retrieving an object, front and back glide, front and back crawl, kneeling or standing dives (shallow dive progressions), rotary breathing in horizontal position, survival float, back float, and butterfly-kick and body motion.
LEVEL 4A: STROKE IMPROVEMENT
Purpose: Develop confidence in the strokes learned and improve other aquatic skills. Level 4a provides students with safe diving rules, diving from stride position or shallow dive, survival float, elementary backstroke, breaststroke kick, feet-first surface dive, treading water, and front and back crawl.
LEVEL 4B: STROKE IMPROVEMENT II
Purpose: Refine and improve strokes learned in 4a while building swimming endurance.Level 4b will help students improve on skills learned in Level 4a while building swimming endurance needed for Level 5. Students will be required to perform front & back crawl, elementary backstroke, introduction to breaststroke arms, introduction to the butterfly, treading water, introduction to sidestroke, and various safety skills.
LEVEL 5: STROKE REFINEMENT
Purpose: Provide further coordination and refinement of strokes.After completion of this class, students will know how to use survival swimming techniques, standing dive (diving progression), open turns on front and back, front and back crawl, performing rescue breathing, tuck surface dive and pike surface dive, front flip turn and backstroke flip turn, elementary backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, and the sidestroke.
LEVEL 6: SWIMMING AND SKILL PROFICIENCY
Purpose: Refines the strokes so students can use them with ease, efficiency, power & smoothness over great distances. Each of the following options focus on preparing students to participate in more advanced courses, such as Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training. Students will focus on each of the following skills in Level 6: Personal Water Safety, Fundamentals of Diving, Lifeguard Readiness, Fitness Swimmer.
SPECIAL NEEDS BEGINNER CLASS
This beginner class is great for children ages six to thirteen that may have mild to moderate disabilities or that may require more of an intimate learning environment to maximize their potential. Participants will be given time to practice skills while positive and corrective feedback is given on how to improve. Please contact the Program Supervisor at 832-3926 for any special needs or requests prior to the start of the class.
TEEN/ADULT SWIM LESSONS
Whether you are just learning how to swim or want to refine your skills, this is the class for you! The primary objective of the teen/adult swim lessons is to provide safe, enjoyable aquatic skills that will enhance the overall quality of the participant’s life. Join our qualified and courteous instructors in a relaxed and social environment while improving your aquatic skills.
DIVING
Instruction for beginner through advanced divers. Students must have passed Level 4 swimming skills.
