Mike B. is a Boy Scout working for his Eagle Scout Badge. He was recognized at the Common Council's May 7th meeting by Mayor Hanna for his civic-minded contribution of a Martin Birdhouse which was placed at Reid Golf Course. The addition of the birdhouse will not only improve the wildlife habitat of the Course, but its occupants will also assist in controlling the mosquito population.

Katie J. - Appleton East senior and Girl Scout is being recognized in Washington D.C. this month for being one of the top ten Girl Scouts in the United States.  Katie volunteered at the Sexual Assault Crisis Center and created a Book entitled "Why Me?" - specifically designed for children who have been sexually assaulted.  The book is designed to open communication and provide opportunities for healing.  Katie will be receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award and the Girl Scout Gold Award Young Women of Distinction.  Less than 1% of all Girl Scouts receive the Girl Scout Gold Award - which is the highest recognition in Girl Scouting and less than a dozen of those girls earn the Girl Scout Gold Award Young Women of Distinction standing.  Katie was recognized at the March 5th Council meeting for her accomplishments and contribution to her community.
