I apply for any City position at any time?
No.
You may only apply for positions that are currently being
recruited for and are listed on the Open
position List.
When
may I apply for a seasonal position in the summer? Fall?
Typically,
the City of Appleton places an advertisement in the Post
Crescent/JOBS Publication in December for the upcoming open summer
positions. The ad will include a listing of all seasonal openings
with every department in the City of Appleton. Typically
interviews for the summer seasonal positions will be set-up around
spring break.
For
fall seasonal positions, we begin recruitment efforts in July.
These positions may not be advertised, however, you will find the
openings listed on our website.
How
do I find out what positions are available?
The
City of Appleton posts the current job openings in the following

Once
I complete an application, how long will it remain on file?
If
you fill out an application for a specific position it will only
be kept on file through that hiring process. Any time you
are interested in a new position, and meet the minimum
qualifications you need to fill out a new application. We do
accept "updated" copies of applications previously
submitted.
Is
it necessary to complete an application, or will a resume be
sufficient?
It
is necessary to complete a City of Appleton application. We will
not accept or consider a resume in lieu of a completed application.
Return completed applications to us by turning them in
at the Human Resources Department, by fax or mail.
Should
I complete an application for every position I am interested in?
Yes.
Every position requires a completed application. You can retrieve
a City of Appleton application
from our website. There are two applications for the City of
Appleton - Regular and seasonal, please choose the
appropriate one. If you are applying for more than one
position at the same time, you may copy the application and submit
an original and a copy.
Should
I follow-up to find out the status of my application in the hiring
process?
No.
We will contact all applicants regarding their status in the
hiring process. We usually contact candidates between 2-4
weeks after the deadline date.
How
long, approximately, is the hiring process for the City of Appleton?

length of the hiring process depends on the position. Time
lengths vary due to testing requirements and other steps the position
may require.
Does
the City of Appleton conduct pre-employment testing?
The
City does conduct pre-employment testing. The types of test vary
with the qualifications necessary for a position.
If
I test with the City of Appleton, and do not pass, am I able to
retest?
Once
you test for a certain hiring process and do not pass, you are
eliminated from that process. You are eligible for retesting
in a different hiring process for which you meet the minimum
qualifications and are asked to test in the new hiring process.
