Car Seat Information
Newborns
Rear-facing in an infant or convertible (toddler) seat until at least one year and 20
pounds. Keep your baby rear-facing as long as your car seat allows.
Check your car seat manual for weight limits.
Toddlers
Forward-facing in a child safety seat with a harness system for
toddlers between 20 and 40 pounds.
Young Children
Booster
seat used with both a lap and shoulder belt. Child should have head support from the vehicle’s head rest or a
high back booster. The booster seat is for children between 40 and 80 pounds.
Older Children
Vehicle seat belt for older children. The lap belt should fit low over the hips and the shoulder belt should cross the middle of the chest. The child’s legs should bend easily over the front of the vehicle seat.
This applies to children over 80 pounds AND 4’9’ tall.
Remember the safest place for all children is in the back
seat.
