Program
Purpose of the Certificate:
The
City of Appleton Historic Preservation Commission invites you to
participate in the nomination of historic restoration or
revitalizations projects that have restored, rehabilitated,
beautified and preserved a part of the City’s historical
resources.
Two types of certificates will be given each year, one for
historic restoration and one for stewardship/revitalization.
General Certificate
Eligibility:
- The
property must be located within the City.
- The
nominated work must be completed.
- If
required, the property owner must have obtained proper and
required city permits and approvals for the project.
Eligibility for Historic
Restoration Certificate:
This
certificate will recognize property owners who have restored the
exterior character of a building or structure to standards true to
its original design. Restoration includes the re-use and
refurbishment of existing exterior features and materials and/or
returning a building or structure to its original condition.

Eligibility for
Stewardship/Revitalization Certificate:
This
certificate will recognize property owners who have put forth
efforts to maintain the exterior character of a building or
structure although exterior design changes may have occurred or new
materials that differ from the original material may have been used
to return the building or structure to its original appearance.

Nominations Deadline:
Nominations
are open to the general public. The
nomination period has ended for this year.
Review of the Nominations:
The
Historic Preservation Commission will review nomination as they are
received and discuss/vote on eligibility for award.
Certificate Presentation:
A
historical restoration or stewardship/revitalization certificate
framed and signed by the Mayor and the Historic Preservation
Commission Chair will be presented to property owners to recognize
their property and their restoration or revitalization efforts. The certificates will be presented on an annual basis at a
Common Council meeting in May in conjunction with Historic
Preservation Month event.
