UPDATED - 10 year-old Appleton Girl Seriously Injured Following Car vs Bike Accident (posted April 24, 2012)
UPDATE:
The Appleton Police Department has concluded its investigation into the car vs. bike accident that occurred at the Ballard Road / Northland Avenue Intersection, on April 17, 2012, at approximately 6:50 PM. Investigators have determined that the two bicyclists were crossing the road with a red traffic signal controlling their movements across the intersection.
No citations will be issued to the two bicyclists. The driver of the SUV which was involved in the accident will be issued a traffic citation for a vision obstruction because of a large necklace that was hanging from her rear view mirror at the time of the accident.
The 10 year-old girl who was struck continues to recover from her injuries.

The Appleton Police Department was dispatched to the Ballard Road / Northland Avenue Intersection, on April 17, 2012, at approximately 6:50 PM, for a car vs. bike accident.
The bicyclist, a 10 year-old Appleton girl, was attempting to cross Northland Avenue, going southbound, at Ballard Road. Two westbound vehicles struck the girl. The girl was struck first by a car travelling in the curb side lane, then by a SUV travelling in the center line lane.
The girl suffered serious injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
A second bicyclist, who was with the girl, was not injured. The Appleton Police Department’s CRASH team was called in and the accident remains under investigation.
