The Central Equipment Agency (CEA) is under the direction of Nathan Loper, Deputy Director of Operations at the Municipal Service Building (832-5580.) CEA provides three basic services. The first of these is vehicle maintenance and repair. CEA personnel currently service vehicles for all departments in the City except Valley Transit who services their own vehicles. Over 6,000 hours are spent each year on preventive maintenance of the City fleet.
In addition to maintaining equipment, the CEA is charged with the purchase or provision of vehicles for all city departments. In providing this service, CEA personnel provide assistance in preparing specifications and taking equipment quotes.
Equipment is evaluated by the user group and the mechanics for mileage, condition, safety, etc. to determine when the equipment will be replaced. Many vehicles have been kept passed their anticipated life and some vehicles have been eliminated through new technology, equipment sharing amongst departments, etc.
Traditionally, two alderpersons, one from the Finance and Administration Committee, and one from the Municipal Services Committee, sit on the CEA Review Committee, which has oversight responsibilities for CEA activities. The CEA Review Committee reports out to the Finance and Administration Committee.
