The Safety and Training Division is under the direction of the Deputy Director of Operations, Nathan Loper and the Safety and Training Coordinator, Erick Cardew. This Division is located at the Municipal Service Building and can be reached at (832-5580.)

The City of Appleton’s Policy is to provide all employees with a safe and healthy work environment. Safe work conditions will be ensured for every employee through the use of training, safety equipment, proper job planning and instructions. Frequent review of safety practices, training and other activities are designed to develop proper attitudes towards safety. Our program includes about 25 in-house training sessions annually. The primary safety objective is to integrate safety into daily operations, ultimately reducing personal injury accidents and vehicle accidents.

All accidents involving City equipment and all injuries involving city employees, are reported to the supervisors or safety coordinator. An accident investigation is completed to meet Federal and State recording requirements, provide protection to the employee and identify root causes of the accident. Accidents not reported in a timely fashion may not be compensable under the Worker’s Compensation benefits.

The City of Appleton will return injured employees to work on light duty when such work is available. It is expected that the injured employee will follow the doctor’s recommendations and return to work (on light duty or regular duty) as quickly as possible after the injury.
