Race & Color Issues Related to Employment Discrimination on April 16:
The most frequently filed claims with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission are allegations of race discrimination, racial harassment, or retaliation arising from opposition to race discrimination. In response, the EEOC has launched the ERACE (Eradicating Racism & Colorism in Employment) Initiative to address criteria and barriers that contribute to race and color discrimination. Maria Flores, Program Manager and a 19-year EEOC veteran, will lay down a foundation on federal anti-discrimination laws, the EEOC investigative process and the latest EEOC initiatives. Maria will then bring to life the unique employment issues faced by people of color by weaving together real case stories, statistics and studies. Learn about emerging issues including "name" and "appearance" discrimination and facially neutral employment criteria which significantly disadvantage applicants and employees; discriminatory language policies; religious accommodation; and the re-emergence of overt forms of discrimination and harassment.
