2017 Loose Leaf Collection/additional round

 2017 AppleSourceLeafmap

Loose leaves and yard waste collection/additional round.

We know many residents of the City of Appleton are wondering if we will be doing another round of leaf collection as the leaves are falling late this year, so weather permitting, Public Works will attempt to perform one additional round of leaf collection through the entire City.

If you live in Zone 1, all leaves need to be placed in the gutter ready for collection by Sunday, November 19.

If you live in Zone 2, all leaves need to be placed in the gutter ready for collection by Sunday, November 26.

Since the weather this time of year is unpredictable, this final collection is not guaranteed and dependent on if snow and ice would come. Then we need to switch operations and concentrate on keeping the roads safe for winter travel.

As a reminder, any leaves not collected during this last round, or not collected due to weather, will be the responsibility of the property owner.

Branches and brush must be cut to 4 foot lengths and bundled with biodegradable twine not to exceed 45 pounds.  You may use paper lawn/leaf bags, but they are not required for this collection.

Remember to keep piles low, so that children are not hidden from motorist and close to the curb, so as not to interfere with traffic.  During the fall pick up, City crews will collect leaves and yard waste from the street gutter only.  Leaves on the following streets will be pushed into piles on side streets as often as possible, but due to heavy traffic, residents are encouraged to transport leaves to the yard waste sites rather than raking them into the gutter.

  • Ballard Road
  • Calumet Street
  • College Avenue
  • Lawe Street - College Ave. - Wisconsin Ave.
  • Mason Street - north of Prospect Avenue
  • Meade Street
  • Newberry Street
  • Oneida Street
  • Richmond Street/Memorial Drive
  • Wisconsin Avenue

It is crucial to our leaf pick up operations to be able to work during the night, starting October 8, the Appleton Police Department will not grant permission for overnight parking all week in the zone scheduled for collection.  Vehicles that are illegally parked overnight (between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.) will be subject to ticketing and towing.

Leaves and yard waste can be delivered to the Glendale Avenue Yard Waste Site, free of charge. The hours are listed below.  The Whitman Yard Waste Site is open through November 20, 2017.
