Garbage

Garbage pickup is done weekly from City supplied garbage carts.

  • Place the City supplied garbage cart out for collection on the night BEFORE the scheduled pickup day between 5:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m.
  • The handle of the garbage cart should face the house.
  • Place the cart at least 5 feet from other objects on the terrace such as other garbage or recycling carts, mailboxes, poles, trees, etc. Garbage trucks need this space for the truck arms to grab the cart.
  • DO NOT park vehicles in front of or near garbage carts.
  • Never place a cart in the road. This is always a safety concern and in winter does not allow plows to clear snow close to the curb. When there are snow banks, place the cart in your driveway apron opening or clear an area on your terrace to allow collection crews access to your cart. Do not place carts on snow banks.
  • Any bags that cause the lid not to close on City supplied garbage carts are considered to be overflow garbage.
  • Return the cart to storage by midnight the day of collection.
  • Please use plastic bags for items inside of City garbage carts.
  • Animal waste is considered to be garbage. It must be bagged.
Visit www.appleton.org then click on the “My Property Info” button link for garbage, recycling and large item collection pickup days specific to your address.

If the garbage or recycling cart needs repair, call 832-5580.

EXTRA GARBAGE BAGS
  • Because garbage cart charges are based on volume, bagged garbage or trash that doesn’t fit in your cart must be marked with a disposal tag - $4.00 each. Bags should weigh less than 45 pounds.
  • Put overflow waste approximately 5 feet from garbage carts.
  • Overflow tag should be attached to bags and be visible to drivers.
  • An unlimited number of garbage bags are collected each week.
SPECIAL GARBAGE COLLECTION
If you are moving or just cleaning out, you may request a special collection for $75. Call 832-5580 for details.
