Fox Valley Law Enforcement Teaming Together to Arrest Hunger
Did you know that in the Fox Valley one (1) in five (5) children and one (1) in nine (9) adults face food insecurity (the lack of enough food for a healthy lifestyle)?
The St. Joseph Food Program is a non-profit organization operating since 1982. Each year, they distribute 2.5 million pounds of fresh food and non-perishable items to thousands of men, women and children; focusing on the elderly, working poor and temporarily unemployed. Operations Manager Scott Schefe estimates the program serves 1,000 families per week (approximately 4,000 people). They are the feeder organization to food pantries in Dale, Kaukauna and Seymour and regularly supplies food staples to Ryan Community, COTS, Homeless Connections, the Fox Valley Warming Shelter, Harbor House and several area churches.
Eight (8) law enforcement agencies from around the Fox Valley partnered to start 2017 by initiating Operation Arresting Hunger. In friendly competition, the eight (8) agencies will be collecting four (4) of the most needed food staples for the St. Joseph’s Food Program during the first four months of 2017.
The competition will be starting on January 1, 2017 and continue through April 30, 2017. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Neenah Police Department, Village of Fox Crossing Police Department, Menasha Police Department, Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office, Appleton Police Department, Fox Valley Metro Police Department and the Grand Chute Police Department are participating.
Each month, agencies will focus on a different food staple most needed by the St. Joseph’s Food Program. Listed below are the items for each month;
January - Peanut Butter
February - Jam/Jelly
March - Tuna
April - Pasta/Pasta Sauces
Each participating agency will have a donation box in the lobby of their department. Please help us arrest hunger in the Fox Valley by donating these items according to the timetable listed above.
