Extortion Attempt Fails
The Appleton Police Department has taken several people into custody for attempting to extort a large amount of money from a local businessman.
On December 9, 2016, at approximately 1:00 AM, someone left a note on the door of a residence in the 3600 block of N. Racine Street. The handwritten note instructed the home owner to collect $7,000 dollars to pay for an alleged wrong connected to a business he operates. The note further directed the reporting person to place the money behind a building on W. Whitter Drive. The home owner immediately contacted the Appleton Police Department.
Officers from the Appleton Police Department monitored the drop location, where a bag had been placed. When several individuals picked up the bag, they were taken into custody. The individuals were questioned at the Appleton Police Department.
The Appleton Police Department has confined two (2) individuals from Menasha for their involvement in the incident. Kishera S. Grover (F/B, 08/27/95) and Amanda G. Lehman (F/U, 12/06/92) will have a charge of Threats to Injure referred to the Outagamie County District Attorney’s Office. A third party, believed to have been involved in the planning and execution of the extortion, is being sought by officers.
No one was hurt as a result of the incident.
