Pedestrian Struck by Train
On September 25, 2016, at 4:30 AM, an officer of the Appleton Police Department reported a pedestrian being struck by a train in the area of W. Lawrence St. and S. Locust Street.
A 21 year-old male, from New London, was found at the scene. The individual was seriously injured; however, the injuries did not appear to be life threatening. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. He remains hospitalized.
The preliminary investigation, indicates the pedestrian was laying on the railroad tracks as the westbound train approached. The engineer of the train reported attempted braking of the train and use of whistles to alert the pedestrian. The pedestrian did not move from the tracks. The Canadian National train was unable to stop prior to impacting the pedestrian.
Numerous intersections across the downtown portion of the City of Appleton remained closed until approximately 7:50 AM. During this time, officers continued to document the scene and investigate the reason for the incident.
