Appleton Octoberfest Wrap-up

Post Date:09/26/2016 10:04 AM

The Appleton Police Department is happy to report a largely uneventful law enforcement weekend at the events held in downtown Appleton.

From a law enforcement perspective, we are encouraged by the results from this weekend. Like previous years, no one went to jail for anything directly related to the downtown events. One individual contacted by officers had a warrant from another jurisdiction, resulting in their arrest.

Several incidents, occurring in parking ramps, drew the attention of officers.  Those incidents resulted in two summons for marijuana possession and another summons for possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers issued several city summons for public urination during Saturday’s event. As one may anticipate, there were also a number of parking issues related to the event. Several vehicle crashes, on the outskirts of the event area, were also investigated.

Considering the tens of thousands of people attending these events, those numbers are outstanding. It also helps our department a great deal to receive the excellent cooperation from car owners at License to Cruise, vendors and attendees at both events, along with the support staff and volunteers of these events.

Appleton truly shines during their community events.

Thanks also goes out to the Appleton Fire Department, Appleton Department of Public Works, Gold Cross Ambulance and the Wisconsin State Patrol for the assistance they provided during the events.

Lastly, we appreciate all of the people who took time to thank us for being at the events or for our service to the community. Those simple words, handshakes or high fives mean a great deal to our officers.

If there were concerns regarding the various aspects of the events, please contact the Appleton Police Department.  We are interested in your feedback.
