Staff to recommend mixed-use development project with new library
Recommendation will go to Common Council/Library Board of Trustees
Later this month the City's development team will recommend to the Common Council and Appleton Public Library Board of Trustees, a proposal for a new downtown mixed-use development to include a new library.
Last October, the City put out a request for proposals from developers. In January, five development teams from around the Midwest submitted proposals. A total of eight different proposals came from those teams.
In the request for proposals, specific needs for the development were laid out. Those included:
- The proposals were confined to a set geographic area of downtown
- A space consisting of approximately 120,000 square feet
- The public portion of the library may not be more than three floors
- Demonstration of adequate parking for the development
Over the last few weeks the proposals were evaluated and interviews with the development teams were completed.
Based on those evaluations and interviews, the City's development team will make a recommendation to the City’s Finance Committee and the Library’s Building and Equipment Committee on Monday, February 26 at a joint meeting in the Common Council Chambers at 5:30 p.m.
Those committees will then make a recommendation to the Appleton Common Council and the Appleton Public Library Board, for review and approval. Should the Common Council and Library Board vote to move forward, City staff will work to create a development agreement with the developer.
