Five development teams submit proposals for new mixed-use projects downtown
Just weeks after U.S. Venture announced a project that will be the largest in downtown Appleton’s history, five development teams submitted proposals for new mixed-use projects that include a library.
“As we’ve said before, the U.S. Venture building is the first domino to fall, so-to-speak, in what we know will be a catalyst for other downtown developments, including the multimillion-dollar renovation of the historic Zuelke building.” said Mayor Tim Hanna. “This strong response to our request for mixed-use development proposals shows that Appleton is a place developers we have not heard from before, are taking notice of.”
Mayor Hanna says that while only one of the proposals will be chosen to include a library, he believes that many, if not all of the proposed projects will move forward.
“Regardless of what project is chosen for the library, we know that the other developers still want to bring a project downtown,” said Mayor Hanna. “We will work with those developers as well, on what is turning out to be an exciting time for the future of Appleton.”
All of the proposals include the Appleton Public Library as an anchor tenant for a mixed-use development. The proposals are responses to a request for proposals the City sent out November 16. Proposals by developers were due at noon today.
Next week Community & Economic Development department staff will review the proposals to ensure they met the requirements of the RFP. Proposals that meet the criteria will then be reviewed by an interdepartmental team of staff members before a recommendation is made to the Common Council and Library Board for a project best suited to include a library.
