Shot Fired in Downtown Under Investigation

Post Date:10/17/2017 4:12 PM
The Appleton Police Department is investigating an incident, in the downtown area, involving an individual firing a shot from a fleeing vehicle.

Around bar-closing on the morning of October 15, 2017, the Appleton Police Department handled several disturbance calls near the 500 block of W. College Avenue.  At 4:02 AM, officers were dispatched to the area of W. Johnston St. and N. State Street for the report of a disturbance involving the display and firing of a handgun. No injuries were reported by the calling party.

Officers responding to the call found several people from an earlier disturbance in the immediate area.  The individuals were not cooperative with requests from the investigating officers for information.

Several witnesses, not directly involved in the disturbance, were interviewed by officers. They reported a disturbance involving males and females. Witnesses saw one male point a handgun toward the crowd before handing the gun to another male. Those individuals got into a silver, four door vehicle.  As the vehicle was leaving northbound on N. State Street, the vehicle passenger door opened and one shot was fired in the direction of the individuals involved in the disturbance.

The Appleton Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Chad Probst at (920) 832-5536. If you have information, but wish to remain anonymous, please consider using the “REPORT” feature available on the Appleton Police Department free phone app.

For additional information please contact Sgt. Lund at (920) 832-5509.
