Oneida St. construction closing in on final phase for 2017
Calumet St. intersection to close 8/28
The on-going Oneida St. project is closing in on it's last major phase for this year.
The photo shows the type of underground utility work being done on this project. This shows Oneida St. looking north toward downtown just north of the Calumet St. intersection.
That next big phase comes on Monday, Aug. 28th when the intersection of Oneida St. and Calumet St. will close until approximately Sept. 13th. There will be no access in any direction to or from Oneida/Calumet during this time period.
Also on Aug. 28th, Calumet St. from Oneida St. to just west of Jefferson St. will close. Access to businesses will be maintained, but drivers will have to use Madison St. from the south. That stretch of work is expected to be completed by Sept. 29th.
Work will also close a short stretch of Calumet St. west of Oneida St. from Sept. 11th-22nd.
Now, if you've read this far, you've gotten to the good news! Yes, there is actually good news in a post about road construction! Once the intersection work is done, drivers can go all the way from Hwy. 441 to downtown. However, keep in mind that there may still be some lane closures for other private utility work along that stretch. Also keep in mind the state is doing work south of Hwy. 441 on Oneida St.
Next spring, we'll begin the work to lay down a new concrete roadway on the areas that were under construction this year. Thanks for your patience and understand during this major road project.
