Plenty of smiles at #CityHallSelfie Day
The sun was out and so were the smiles at #CityHallSelfie Day on Tuesday as hundreds of residents turned out to snap photos and have fun with city staff. The national event was organized by Engaging Local Government Leaders challenged local governments across the country to get staff and residents to come out and snap selfies in front of publicly owned buildings.
If you follow us on our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages, you may have seen some of our posts and shares of your great selfies. We added a photo gallery of them all for you to see. For us, the goal of the day was for you to put names and faces to some of our hard-working city staff and to see you come out and learn more about us.
We were thrilled to see so many people come out to have fun and enjoy the guests, including Mayor Hanna, the Appleton Police Dept., Appleton Fire Department and Fang from the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
We also want to give a huge shout-out to our business partners who generously provided treats for selfie-takers as well. Bagelicious provided bagels and Copper Rock Coffee Co. provided coffee coupons to get the morning jump-started. The afternoon got sweeter as Crazy Sweet brought over a prize wheel to spin for treats, Cake Guru baked up some delicious cupcakes and Simple Simon Bakery got us all buzzing with cookies in the late afternoon.
Everyone who took a selfie and tagged us in the photo was entered into a drawing for one of two grand prizes we awarded locally for the day. Appleton Downtown Inc., awarded a $100 downtown gift certificate for the best selfie of the day. The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center also awarded a pair of tickets to see a show at the PAC for the most artistic selfie of the day.
We hope you all enjoyed the day as much as we did and we hope to see even more of you participate next year!
